SECCR’s first series of training courses witnessed a successful completion

        SECCR’s first series of training courses witnessed a successful completion on 25 July 2018. These courses, initiated by SCRC and SECCR, aimed to intensify the construction of review capacity of the ethics committee and elevate its overall strength.
        Starting from March 2018, the serial courses were comprised of 5 modules, each divided into two sessions, lasting for 5 months in all. The courses covered many contents, including 1) biomedicine research and the ethics principles: historical evolution and developmental progression, 2) GCP of domestic and international clinical research, scientific design of biomedicine research and overview of the ethics norms: theory and practice, 3) cell research and the ethics norms: from foundation to application, 4) norms of ethic review: domestic practice, and 5) research on and application of biobanking: ethics norms and practical operation. The training was hosted by Professor Chen Pei, Vice Director of the committee, and many professors, doctors, and experts were in charge of conducting the courses. The lecturers included Professor Hu Qingli, Dr. Zhu Wei, Professor Zhao Naiqing of Fudan University, Xu Juncai, Chief Medical Officer of Jiyi Medical Technology co. LTD, Professor Qiu Xiangxin of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Ma Jing, Researcher of National Shanghai Center for Research on New Drug Safety Evaluation, Wu Rong, Research of Fudan University, Professor H Jinhong of Second Military Medical University, Dr. Liu Shijian, Director of Clinical Biobanking Department of Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, and Dr. Yang Yajun, a member of National Committee of Standardized Technology of Biobanking. And many trainees from the hospitals, higher-learning institutions and the relevant enterprises participated in the serial training courses.
        During the training, the committee members, experts and colleagues gathered together, and exchanged opinions upon the problems they came across in the concerned fields, and discussed issues like clinical research design, stem cell research, ethics norms of biobanking. Taking into account the testees’ interests, they carreid out warm discussion about the ethic issues such as scientificity of research, informed consent, equality and fairness, privacy protection, compensation, and benefits. The trainees expressed that they benefited a lot from the training and also put forward suggestions such as arranging more case studies related to hot ethic issues in future training.
        At last, Professor Hu Qingli summarized the training of this series of courses. In his words, “it was the first time to conduct this series of training courses after the establishment of SECCR, whose completion represented a staged ending. Thanks will be extended to all the trainees, and we hope that they can get real improvement through the training and put into practice what they learned from the courses, and make more normalized the studies of stem cell and biobanking.”
