On July 6^th and 7^th, 2nd Annual Biobank China 2012 -Echics Construction & Information Management for Biobank was held successfully in Shanghai San Want Hotel by Shanghai Clinical Research Center (SCRC) and Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Biobank. Over 400 participants from over 10 countries, 20 provinces and 100 international and national universities, institutes, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies, attended the conference and exchanged thoughts and experiences in translational medical research, information management and ethical issues related to biobank development during the conference.

 

  

 

The conference has invited speakers from world renowned biobank projects and institutes, such as Dr. Kurt Zatloukal, coordinator of ESFRI, Biomedical and Biobanking Resources Research Infrastructure (BBMRI), Dr. Chana Rabiner, Office of Biorepository and Biospecimen Research (OBBR) of National Cancer Institute (NCI) in USA, Dr. Georges Dagher, deputy director of Clinical Research Dept, INSERM, as well as domestic experts, such as Professor Guoping Zhao from Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Professor Jiayou Chou from Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Medical Biology Institute of Beijing Union Medical College.

 

With the theme of "Ethics Construction and Information Management for Biobank", the conference probed into the latest development, shared best practice and featured first-hand experience in the key issues related to biobank construction in the three sessions, namely "biobank management and translational medical research", "ethics construction for biobank" and "information management for biobank".

 

   

 

"While we witness the fast development of biobanks, we should also be aware of the arising ethical and information issues related to the development." Dr. Rongxing Gan, Director of SCRC said, "We should establish feasible ethics rules, safe and convenient information management system and biobanks of high quality and standard to serve translational medical research."
