SCRC Undertook the National Key R & D Program “The Key Technology of Biological Safety”

        The key special project “The Construction and Application of the Distributed Human Genetic Resources” under the National Key R & D Program “The Key Technology of Biological Safety”, jointly undertaken by Central South University, Shanghai Clinical Research Center (SCRC) and other three organizations was approved in July, 2016. As the key member in the project team, SCRC is responsible for sample standardization, construction of backup biobank and bio-information database, realizing the transmission between large sample data and medical data, and promoting the development of China's population and health. With the support of Central South University, the project will mainly focus on familial genetic diseases, reproductive disorders, nasopharyngeal cancer, colorectal cancer, gynecological cancer, skin cancer, elderly postoperative cognitive dysfunction and develop a human genetic resources center with a storage capacity of 5 million samples, covering Hunan, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Chongqing. SCRC in Shanghai will built a backup repository with a storage capacity of 1.5 million samples.
        The National Key R & D Program is focused on major research related to national welfare and people's livelihood, as well as the industry's core competitiveness, the overall capability of independent innovation and national security, major technologies and international science and technology cooperation, providing continuous support and leading to major economic and social development fields. The national Key R & D Program is integrated with the original 973 Plan, 863 Plan, National Science and Technology Support Program, international scientific and technological cooperation and exchange projects. The year of 2016 is the first year to implement the Program. The project includes five subjects, shared by Central South University, SCRC, Fudan University, the Third Military Medical University and Southern Medical University. The project aims to set up 30 biosample collecting sites, 8 national and provincial level satellite sites and one central biobank covering four provinces led by Central South University based on the cloud information platform and mobile terminal products developed for biosample collection, storage and management.
        A new model for the construction of human genetic resources bio-bank will be opened up in our country. A technology system with national standards, which is fast, affordable, shared, and applicable and related products resulting from the project will help to guide the development of the human genetic resources bio-bank in China.
        On the one hand, we will construct a standard and quality control system, which could be used in any time. On the other hand, we should make the technology of the mining, the utilization, the representation, and the index of the human genetic resources information advanced and accessible. Above all, we are going to support the management and traceability of the human genetic resources samples in our country.
